Measure the flat base, not the tube diameter

The shade sticker belongs on the flat bottom of the lipstick case. Its maximum useful diameter is smaller than the outside diameter once the rim, moulding and base recess are accounted for. Ask for a physical empty component and measure the printable circle with the cap and twist mechanism assembled.

The pictured ROSE 04 sticker has a shade name, code, swatch and small lip icon. The side decoration does a different job: it makes the range look coherent. I would not shrink the base text just to fit the whole front-panel story there. Avery Dennison's small-diameter label guide includes lipstick among small-format cosmetic applications; the final construction still needs this case tested.

Use a shade matrix before artwork approval

List every approved name, code, colour reference and quantity in one matrix. A label sheet that prints ROSE 04 next to ROSE 02 is easy to mis-pick if both names are tiny. Keep a consistent position for the code and vary the swatch only after the shade owner approves it against the physical product.

The generated sheet is illustrative; its colours are not production swatches. For a real order, ask for a printed proof on the selected substrate and compare the approved range under the lighting your team uses to pack. Our lip-gloss range guide

Test the bottom label after handling

A base label can rub on displays, trays and packing surfaces. Check edge fit and legibility on actual components after the handling your operation expects. If the base is textured or recessed, tell the supplier; a flat digital proof cannot settle adhesion on that surface.

Do not assume a larger label is safer. An overwide circle can catch on the raised rim, while a tiny circle can make the shade impossible to read. I would choose the smallest size that keeps code and name clear and sits fully on the flat area.

Quote each shade as a controlled version

Send the case sample, flat-base diameter and recess depth, approved shade matrix, quantities per shade, label finish and hand- or machine-application details. If supplied on rolls, specify core, gap and unwind. Ask for digital proofs of every code and an applied sample on the real base.

The buying decision is not merely price per sticker. It is whether the right shade survives print, picking and sale without the team decoding a decorative side wrap.
