Find the panel that actually works
Ask the bottle supplier for the approved decoration area on the exact HDPE pack. Measure between the shoulder, base radius, grip recess and mould seams with the flip-top cap fitted. Compare an empty bottle with a filled one. A front label that sits neatly on an empty sample may distort when the wall carries weight or is squeezed.
The label should not bridge a cap, hinge or removable part. A separate back label can hold approved directions and product information if a single wrap creates a difficult seam. But two labels also mean two application positions, possibly two dies and more checks. Quote the full pack rather than treating extra labels as free space.
Let the front say what is in the bottle
“Dishwasher Gel” should be apparent before a shopper has to decode a droplet graphic. For multiple variants, keep the product name and brand in stable positions, then change a controlled colour or variant line. The illustrated Original and Citrus bottles use a simple dishwasher outline as a category cue, not a cleaning-performance guarantee.
Avoid borrowing a dish soap or rinse-aid layout merely because the bottles look similar. Those are different product identities. The brand owner should provide approved formulation claims, instructions, hazard or market-specific language if applicable. The label supplier should not invent any of them. That distinction matters when small packaging forces a copy cut.
Review material, ink and adhesive together
A bottle used near water and cleaning products needs a relevant physical sample check: wipe handling, finger contact, flexing and any formula drips expected in normal use. “Waterproof” on a quotation is too broad; specify which construction and which test conditions are being proposed. Avery Dennison's home-and-personal-care overview notes that this category spans different containers, papers and films. That supports asking for a format-specific proposal, not assuming one stock fits every bottle.
If a retail barcode belongs on a curved back panel, do not shrink it until it fits the artwork. GS1's placement guidance calls for checking that a symbol is not obscured and for consulting packaging and print teams. The retailer and brand's GS1 owner should approve the actual code and print specification.
What to approve before a repeat order
Send assembled filled bottles, drawings, exact variants, quantities per design, front/back copy and application method. Ask for a labelled sample using the proposed face stock, adhesive, print and finish. Check squareness, edge lift after ordinary handling, cap operation and readability on the full bottle. Record the agreed sample construction so a reorder does not quietly change it.
Our wash care label range covers related packs, and the dishwasher rinse-aid guide shows why a smaller bottle needs a separate layout. A quote that starts from the filled bottle usually saves more discussion than one that starts from a glossy render.
