Place the label below the pump assembly

Measure the straight wall with the pump and protective cap attached. The label needs clearance from the collar, shoulder and base radius. On a clear bottle, also look through the opposite side: back-panel text can interfere with the front design.

The pictured bottles use applied pressure-sensitive labels, not direct print or a full shrink sleeve. If the retail bottle uses another decoration method, do not assume the tester can simply copy its artwork at a smaller scale. The tester still needs its own dieline and proof.

Make TESTER a controlled artwork field

The orange band is not decoration; it is the practical distinction between this sample pack and a saleable SKU. Keep the product name and brand readable, but put TESTER in a position that survives a hurried glance. If testers have different shade, fragrance or formula variants, name them consistently in both the artwork and order files.

I would print a small proof and place it beside the retail pack. If the two can still be confused, the contrast has not done enough. Do not invent sample-only claims or directions. The responsible brand team must approve any product statement and market-specific copy.

Choose a construction for handling

A tester may be handled repeatedly and wiped around the pump. Compare the face stock, adhesive, ink and protective finish on the actual bottle. Avery Dennison’s home and personal-care materials overview describes possible label families; it does not establish performance for this particular filled sample.

Ask for an applied sample and handle it as it will be used. The brand can then judge whether print contrast, edge adhesion and the TESTER field remain adequate. A digital proof is still needed for spelling and hierarchy, but it cannot replace that physical check.

Order by tester version, not just bottle count

Send the chosen bottle and pump, front and back panel measurements, approved retail and tester artwork, quantities per version, and the planned application method. If an applicator is involved, supply core, gap and unwind details.

The body-lotion pump guide covers more bottle-panel choices. Here the procurement risk is version confusion. I would rather see two clearly named artwork files than one ambiguous “final-final” label roll.
