Choose a flat sidewall, not the rim
Find the straightest sidewall with the lid in place. Measure the useful height below the lid overhang and above any bottom radius. A label crossing a curved lip may wrinkle even when its digital outline looks correct. If the ceramic surface has texture or uneven glaze, ask for a physical test on that exact batch of vessels.
The pictured design uses separate side labels for Cedar and Fig. It leaves lids free and keeps the name visible when both jars sit on a shelf. A bottom label, if required, is a separate format with separate content and material questions.
Check contrast across the two glaze colours
EMBER HOUSE uses a light label on cream and a dark label with bronze detail on charcoal. The layout stays one family while the contrast is adjusted. That is more useful than forcing one ink treatment across both glazes and hoping the small scent word remains legible.
Ask for printed samples on the final ceramic colours. Matte paper can feel appropriate, but it may behave differently from film when handled, wiped or stored. Choose by the intended use and test results, not by a screen rendering.
Keep display design separate from safety information
A decorative front label does not replace the approved information the brand must supply for the market where it sells candles. The candle information-label guide helps plan a distinct readable panel. The generated image has no safety marks because a mockup cannot establish compliant wording.
Do not claim a label is heat-safe simply because it appears on a candle jar in a photograph. Agree on expected handling and placement, then test an applied sample. Avery Dennison’s adhesive glossary explains adhesive properties in general; it is not a pass result for a particular glazed vessel.
Quote each scent and vessel combination
Send both ceramic vessels or finish samples, sidewall dimensions, approved art and copy, scent list, quantity by variant, application method and any separate bottom-label requirement. Ask for a printed sample on each glaze before confirming a production run.
If a scent later moves to a tin or clear glass jar, reopen the material and contrast decision. Our candle label collection shows the other formats. The design should travel as a system; the adhesive choice should be checked again.
